Europe's best-kept secret at half the price - cobbled Tbilisi, the mighty Caucasus, and 8,000 years of winemaking.

Georgia sits at the meeting point of Europe and Asia, wedged between the Black Sea and the Greater Caucasus mountains - and right now it is the fastest-rising destination among young Indian travellers. The reasons are simple: it looks and feels like Europe (cobbled old towns, cafe culture, alpine scenery), it costs less than half of what Western Europe does, and the entry process is a painless USD 25 e-visa (or visa-free if you already hold a US, UK, or Schengen visa). Our Georgia tour package from Ahmedabad is built around these advantages.
Tbilisi, the capital, is one of the most atmospheric cities you will ever walk through. The old town tumbles down a hillside beneath the 4th-century Narikala Fortress (reached by a scenic cable car), past carved wooden balconies, hidden courtyards, and the famous brick-domed sulphur baths of Abanotubani, which have been in continuous use since the 5th century. The Bridge of Peace, Rustaveli Avenue, and the Holy Trinity Cathedral round out a city that rewards slow wandering - and street cafes where an excellent meal costs what a coffee does in Paris.
The day trip north along the Georgian Military Highway is the country's signature experience. You pass the turquoise Zhinvali Reservoir and the fairy-tale Ananuri Fortress, climb through the ski resort of Gudauri and the panoramic Russia-Georgia Friendship Monument, and end beneath Mount Kazbek (5,047 m) at Kazbegi, where the 14th-century Gergeti Trinity Church stands alone on a ridge at 2,170 metres - one of the most photographed churches on earth.
Georgia is also the birthplace of wine - 8,000 vintages of history, recognised by UNESCO for its traditional qvevri clay-jar winemaking. A day in the Kakheti region takes in family wineries and the hilltop town of Sighnaghi, the "City of Love", with its complete medieval wall and views across the Alazani Valley to the Caucasus. Wine tastings typically cost a few hundred rupees, and non-drinkers are equally welcome for the food, churchkhela sweets, and scenery.
Winter flips the script: from December to March, Gudauri becomes one of the cheapest quality ski destinations available to Indians - lift passes and equipment hire cost a fraction of European resorts, and beginner packages with instructors are excellent. It is an outstanding alternative to a Himachal winter trip.
